Preparations, Decorations, Christmas wrappings; card writing, festive celebrations – the many rituals we undertake at Christmas time. Charlie Browns’ Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty – secular celebrities preparing our children to expect something big.
What is it we all are preparing ourselves for? Unity Principles have taught me to prepare the inside of my Being by being willing to clear away “error” thoughts, or thoughts which no longer serve the well-being of my Spirit; and affirm Spiritual truth so that the inside of my Being is clear, prepared and ready for me to live in the kingdom of heaven which is to experience life directly.
In the Gospel of Thomas we read that when Jesus saw infants being suckled, He said to his disciples: “These little ones are like those who enter the kingdom.” They said to him: “Then will we enter the kingdom as little ones?” Jesus said to them: “When you make the two into one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside and the above like the below – that is, to make the male and the female into a single one, so that the male will not be male and the female will not be female and when you make eyes instead of an eye and a hand instead of a hand and a foot instead of a foot, an image instead of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].”
Faith, Peace, Love and Joy are the qualities we call forth during Advent. Practicing and living these qualities transform our consciousness into one which is stable and a safe place from which Spirit may lead us; a place where compassion, understanding, peace and love emanate from us. This is the Christmas Gift of Christ given for us to unwrap and from which to live.
