Blessed are the Poor in Spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven

We began a new Series this past Sunday.   We are assimilating into our Being the Beatitudes. It is the intention of these Beatitudes to give us Principles to live our lives from a higher frequency. To cultivate attitudes that align with being respectful Global citizens.  I appreciate the way that Unity Scholar Rev Thomas Shepherd described Unity as Culturally Christian and Universally Spiritual.  His column, “I’ve always Wondered about…” helps people to see things in a new light.

That is the intention behind taking these Beatitudes into us and asking how are they useful and relevant to us today?  In Matthew 5 we read “Jesus went up the mountain and sat down, his disciples came to him.”   Jesus is giving to his closest companions ways to Be in the world. These teachings were radical, dangerous and intended to cause a shift in consciousness from the old way of seeing things.

At that time it was believed that people who were sick or lived in poverty were being punished by a vengeful God.  Here comes Jesus saying, in other words, “Way to Go, That’s the ticket, Keep it Up. Congratulations”  (My words) In other words, “don’t lose heart, you’ve got the religious and political authorities on the run.  The minds and hearts of people are being changed.

Can we see this today in what is happening?

The peaceful protesters have a radical and beautiful idea that there are other ways to Be with and See one another. Blessed are the poor in Spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”  What if we apply this to what is occurring today? How can we re-frame it to apply to the peaceful protesters and their desire to reform the police to one of community safety?

Another way to See this, is if we can put on the lens of Panentheism.

Panentheism is a theological word which describes a way of seeing.  A way that can see through cultural appearances and into the universality of Spirit.  As I said above, Unity has been described as a culturally Christian and Universally Spiritual way of seeing that God is in all life.

God did not make humankind and then decide more than half was unworthy. Genesis 1:26 points this out:  “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.”

Is this possible?
Take a moment now and step into your heart of compassion.  Peace comes when we are centered in compassion.  Inner peace transcends the emotions of the moment.
Lean into this situation and BE a call for healing. Ask what is ours to do in this situation right now that would demonstrate our Christ consciousness. Buddha Consciousness, Sufi Consciousness, Quaker Consciousness, Universalist  Consciousness?  Perhaps its attending a peaceful march. Perhaps it donating to the ACLU or other organizations dedicated to Black Lives’s Matter movement. Perhaps its writing a letter to our Congressmen.  Taking small steps of authentic action puts us in the seat of Being a contribution.

“Congratulations”  To those who See with Spiritual eyes and respond in love.

Our Church is open for services as well as offering our Services on Facebook Live at 10.
