“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship him in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24)
When I was growing up and I would be in a funk over something, my mom would say to me “Give it to Jesus.” I used to think she was crazy because I would think “what does Jesus have to do with this?”
Now, my mom was not particularly religious, but she had a love for Jesus. She would say he lived and experienced all the challenges in life and if you ‘give your problems to him,’ he will take them and you will return to peace.
My nana used to say similar things, although she would say ‘give your problems to me’ and I’ll hold them for you so you don’t have to carry them anymore.
The idea behind both of these statements is to release your mind from fixating on an issue.
Spiritual practices such as writing out your challenges in a journal; sharing your concerns with a trusted friend; affirmative prayer, reading spiritual literature, meditation, yoga, Tai Chi are tools which help us to release our worries and refocus our attention on the Present moment.
Some avoid Spiritual practices because they can create in us a sense of restlessness and that is a good thing. Restlessness is a sign that we are up to interrupting an old habit or pattern that is not helpful to us and when we sit with that restlessness we notice it shifts away.
I find Unity’s prayer wheel to be very helpful as a guide to use to overcome worldly fears.
May you be aware of the sacred ground of peace that is right where you are.
Blessings,
Rev Janice
