Sunday Feb 16 at 10 a.m. we continue with our message which comes our from a Lesson on Healing from Truth Unity.
To practice metaphysical spiritual Christianity, based on Unity teachings has given me the Bible back. This is so important because it takes the Bible stories and precepts out of the literal interpretation and gives it a metaphysical spiritual meaning that can be applied to our daily lives.
All words divide as they try to describe a subjective and ephemeral experience into a world view based on the culture in which we’ve been raised. Our words are powerful seeds that when planted into the our Being, our Soul, they sprout roots and rise up into belief systems.
How do we know our belief system is valid?
Belief systems are truly only structures of knowing. We outgrow belief systems all the time, if we are healthy. When you notice you no longer need this particular structure, (like training wheels on a bike) can you let it go?
The ego (metaphysically, King Herod) will want to hold onto it. When we look back at history, we often think “how could they have done that” when the truth is “how could they not.” People are hard wired not to question authority, the programs, the culture so its even harder to question your thoughts, your feelings, your belief systems. Until you have an epiphany, an experience, like our co-founder Myrtle Fillmore had.
Rev John Shelby Spong visted Unity Village in 2008 and he said “You have a lot of broken people that come into Unity to be healed.”
Yes, we are a healing ministry. People come to us often because they realized the dis-ease of ego-made certainty and want to hear a more universally accepting, inclusive, unitive message of faith.
When we shift from a God “out there” to a God “within,” we are taking our power and authority back however this shift causes discomfort and it comes with strings; those strings are we need to be accountable to how we are showing up and interacting in the world.
Are we modeling our way showers forgiveness and inclusion or are we modeling Herod’s exclusion and insistence?
That is how we know whether our Christ nature or our Herod nature is running us..
They both (qualities) are in us…
