Mother’s Day

Our Mother’s are our first understanding of unconditional love. This nurturing quality of the divine is found throughout all creation.  Mother love takes many expressions.  It it not always a birth mother that fulfills this role, yet it takes an extreme amount of love to give a child up for adoption and we honor and appreciate that act.  Let us also honor and appreciate the caregivers, the foster and adoptive mothers who bring these little ones into their lives.

Mother love is the type of love that stands vigil, praying her child heals or returns home from an evening out with friends;  Mother love is fierce as she persistently seeks and navigates the medical structures seeking the assistance her child needs.  Mother love is the desire of wanting her offspring to be safe and secure and not suffer yet knows that she must watch as life insists all of creation struggle in order to grow spiritually, mentally and physically.

When Jesus cried out “Jerusalem, Jerusalem…how often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.”  (Matthew 23:37)

This passage from Matthew describes the type of energy we all hold for our children, our loved ones, our family, and our planet.  This energy of love comes from the center of peace (Jerusalem), yet the Mind, cannot hear it because it is often filled with error thoughts. (Cultural conditioning).

Love is Universal.  Our co-founder, Myrtle Fillmore is called the Mother of Unity because she wanted to bring into our consciousness of all people the Mother aspect of God.  These qualities are innate in all of us.  Let us not just honor these qualities on Mother’s Day, let us express this nurturing, compassionate, forgiving energy to ourselves, our planet and one another every day.

Happy Mother’s Day,
Rev Janice
