An axiom is a statement, principle or rule that is accepted as true without proof. In Unity we often use the axiom “What you resist persists.”
We understand intellectually, that all things pass and yet we have this idea that resistance keeps it there longer; I believe it would be more accurate to say “what we resist causes us more pain and suffering.” as we are moving through life’s experiences.
The Buddha taught that Dukkha (suffering) is an inescapable part of ordinary life which stems from impermanence. Jesus said: “In the world you face persecution (opposition) but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
There is no way for us to avoid challenges; in fact it is through challenges we gain wisdom. Let us shift our relationship with resistance and understand that discomfort only means that we are being faced with an opportunity to grow; to release our need for perceived perfection and realize that we have come into the physical world for experiences and to bring love and comfort to our brothers and sisters.
