Author and Spiritual teacher Brene’ Brown tells a story that shifted her life, even though it also irritated her.
The story took place about ten years ago when she had to go to the hairdresser and spend 90 minutes to get her natural color. She said she was sitting there in the chair with foils all over her head; she had her cell phone up to her ear and was speaking to a co-worker at her office and she had her laptop open and was attempting to do some work.
A stylist came over to her and said: “You are like shot out of a cannon.” I looked at him incredulously and I said “You do you, I’ll do me.”. But he continued and said: “You are living beyond human scale.”
Well, she never went back to that hair stylist again, and yet his comment stuck with her, and she realized she was irritated because there was a lot of truth in it.
There is so much going on in our world today. With AI, social media, all the wars and devastation and tragedy all over the world, a vitriolic election year. No wonder we wake up frazzled.
Truthfully, this chaos is probably more than we are neurobiologically able to handle.
So what can we do while the world and all the chaos spins?
Be aware of what is happening in our world, but not keep the news on 24/7/
Self-care is so essential – Go outside, walk, swim, ride a bike every day.
Be in community, for it is essential for your well being.
We need each other to thrive; we need face to face, eye to eye, heart to heart contact. Nothing is more healing. We need to laugh, to sing, to appreciate the crazy funny things in life.
Social media is a good way to communicate but it is NOT community. You can have 10 thousand followers but no one to come and feed your cat.
The Tao means How. The Tao is single principle underlying all creation. Tao is God. Creation, on the other hand is process, things and events. That is all there is Principle and Process. How and What. By connecting to Tao, we become aware of How things happen. (The Tao of Leadership)
Find your human rhythm – flowers don’t hurry up and grow, they bloom in their time. Our humanness is sacred, let us savor it, and live from our natural rhythm of nature. Nature unfolds, she’s in no hurry, but she provides for us all.
