“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”
Some people believe that if they join a spiritual community or a religious denomination they will be spared the challenges that we are confronted with by being human. Stories have been created of rewards and punishments that a God out there actually doles things/circumstances out. Some say “God would not let this happen or why did God let this happen.”
What I have come to love about living the Universal Christ by Father Richard Rohr, and living Unity Principles is releasing the false presumption that there is an entity judging us, condemning us or rewarding us. When we discover and deepen our spiritual awareness and we let our Christ-like nature, our nature of Love guide us, we have the capacity to observe the comings and going of the many things that come into our “guest house” and remain centered.
In the Gospel of Mary she calls this consciousness, Ihidaya, unified consciousness, meaning that we realize our Oneness with this essence of Love that Mary Magdalene calls “The Good.”
Today, may we recognize “The Good” in our lives
