As I write this, I have two of my fur babies lying near me. My ten pound chihuahua Chloe is cuddled up on a chair near the window, so she can see out and bark in case someone walks by. And Jay, my newest addition, is a 50 pound Bernese Mountain Doodle. He’s kind of a goofy dog, who gets all excited and barks at the television when animals of any kind make an appearance. He is currently sprawled on the floor, yet is able to jump to attention if something peaks his interest.
It’s been interesting watching these two learn to accept, tolerate and now even play with each other.
How they interact is hilarious. Jay will come bounding toward Chloe with what seems like an intention to play, and Chloe becomes vocal with a high pitched scream that stops him in his tracks. He’s not really that close to her but she picks up on his intent and sends him running. Truly they seem very happy here at home and they are teaching us that love comes in all shapes and sizes.
I also think there is something magical about sitting in meditation with these two dogs at my side. To sit in silence with Chloe on my lap and Jay nearby helps me let go and just be in state of gratitude.
They also both love their walks. I’ve never really had to train Chloe, as I could just pick her up if need be, but I’ve learned how to walk Jay. When another dog crosses our path he has learned to be obedient and stays close to me. He looks to me almost knowing he must stay close to my side and not start pulling or wanting to chase the other dog.
The greatest lesson we can receive from our pets is their ability to embody the pure, unadulterated joy of being alive. We touch that awareness when we sit and become attentive to the energies of love that surround and infill us.
On Saturday September 27 at 6 pm. we invite you to brings your fur or feathery babies or pictures of them to our pet blessing ceremony. I have water from the River Jordan in which we will bless them.. We have a doggie bag treat and a free booklet, “The Spiritual wisdom of pets.”
We will have this ceremony in our backyard on our 12 Power circle. Let us join together and give thanks for the love our pets share with us.
Blessings
