Presence and Potential
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your Souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
If there is a herd of cattle grazing in a field, and one cow touches an electric fence, the cow starts to run and the others follow, causing a stampede. This is a herd mentality.
Human Beings are similar in that we are social animals. We say we like to hang with like minds, and we often have knee jerk reactions. When something challenging happens to us, or we face something disquieting and uncomfortable, our thoughts stampede all over the place, draining us of our vital life force.
Typically, when someone is mad or angry , we run away without pausing to see if there is any real threat.
Let us reimagine this trait and understand that we will never be able to change this pattern because it is hardwired into us. However, one of the things we can do is interrupt this pattern. of fight, flight or freeze. We do this through taking a breath, take a pause (wait on the Lord) which takes us out from our animalistic brain and puts us in touch with our Higher Self, our God Self, our heart, where wisdom resides.
This Sunday after service, I will present Presence and Potential , a book written by Rev Martha Creek. It is a tool box of ideas to help us get out of the stampede and back to a place of peace and poise.
Join us for this practical application of Unity teachings.
Blessings, Rev Janice
