A Walk in the Woods.
Even though this photo is not a normal picture of a beautiful Easter scene with flowers and Easter eggs. I mean where are the Easter baskets and bunnies and chocolates…. But then again this no normal Easter season.

One of the blessings in this “Safer at Home” order is that Dave and I and Chloe are taking lots of walks. The photo above was taken on one of the trails at the Oxbow Center. Now, I know at first glance it may not be a beautiful scene, yet it is of nature and nature in all of her unique expressions is beautiful. This tortoise is trying to get out of our way and into the brush. He didn’t make it. He stopped and tucked his head into his shell.
In Matthew 8:20 we read that Jesus said to his disciples “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
How does this relate to us this Easter?
To follow the Christ teachings is to recognize we are not of this world. In fact the world doesn’t much like nor respect us for it. This world is temporary and we are only passing through. This world is not our home. Our home is our consciousness, and like the tortoise, we take that with us everywhere.
As we empty ourselves from our egoic notions we begin to put on the Christ teachings. As it says in Philippians 2:5 “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.”
