Happiness is a Choice

All morning I’ve had internet repairmen to hook up my tv’s and bring in cable to another set.  They were professional and calm as they were able to trouble shoot the issues.

When we are faced with issues, problems or challenges – it all depends on the way we see them as to whether they cause us to become frustrated,  stealing away our happiness.  The thing is you cannot let someone or something else steal away your happiness,  for happiness is self-generated.  Happiness does not depend on persons, things or outcomes.

Happiness is an inner awareness of wholeness within, like an island of calm in the midst of the moving and churning turbulence that surrounds us.  Happiness is not something we possess, it is an experience that supports us as we walk our journey.

Jesus spoke to us of happiness when he said ‘These things I have spoken unto you that your joy may be full.”  Joy/Happiness/Contentment, these are all fruits of being connected to Source.

So one of the repairmen asked me when he was finished with the job, what type of work I did.  I replied that I was a minister at Unity and of course, he asked  “what type of church is Unity?” I replied Unity is a Christian nondenominational spiritual center that practices the principles of Love.  He said “That’s good to serve God.”

Yes, it is.  So today, if a feeling of overwhelm arises, welcome it, sit with it, turn it over to the God of your Being and notice that it is just a feeling moving through.

Happiness is one of the many fruits of serving God and serving, loving and knowing God starts when we turn within and focus on what gives our life meaning and fulfilment and joy.
